    Street Movies! returns to Vernon Park this month

    Scribe Video Center’s free Street Movies! series returns to Vernon Park this month with a lineup of independent short films, including stories connected to Germantown’s library, local archiving and Philly’s rumba community.

    Local historian Menika Dirkson brings her book talk to the library she grew up in

    Menika Dirkson’s Hope and Struggle in the Policed City: Black Criminalization and Resistance in Philadelphia traces the history of policing, community activism, and the stigmatization of Black communities in Philly from the 1920s to the 1970s. This January, Dirkson will host a book talk at the Joseph E. Coleman Library, where neighbors can borrow her book and explore the narratives of resilience and resistance she chronicles.
