With the spring season in full swing, May is set to bring a large slate of events to the community that will give folks a variety of offerings.
From historic tours and nature-related activities to vendor-filled events and gatherings with a splash of art, this month will create social spaces that’ll be unique from one another.
The Germantown Info Hub has a list of events this month that neighbors can be on the lookout for.
iMPeRFeCT Gallery’s New Exhibitions
What: Four new exhibitions will be featured in different sections of the gallery for over a month, consisting of various paintings, colorful sketches, and canvases that are metal, plastic, or glass-based. The opening reception of the exhibit will be on Saturday, May 2, from 6–9 p.m.
When: May 2 through June 6, Fridays and Saturdays, 12–5 p.m.

Northwest Library Tool Drive
What: A tool drive with a mission to make home maintenance more accessible to folks throughout the Northwest. It accepts and provides hand tools, corded power tools, medium-sized table top tools, ladders, automotive tools, and gardening and landscaping tools.
When: Sunday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing

Spotlight Tour: Building the Chew Household
What: A tour that will cover the design and construction of the Chew House and other buildings on the estate, based on accounts that detail the work of Germantown builders on Cliveden during the 18th Century.

What: A community event that’ll unite neighbors over live music, food, and a variety of vendors. Second Saturdays kicks off this Saturday, May 9, and will span through October 10. Locations will vary by month.

Love Your Park Week
What: During the citywide Love Your Park Community Cleanup week, many block and site organizers are welcoming volunteers to help beautify the historic strip in a continuous effort to revitalize the corridor and unite community members. Cleaning supplies will be provided to volunteers.

Wayne Junction Tour with Ken Weinstein and Kim Chantry
What: A tour of the Wayne Junction Historic District, which was once known as a thriving Philadelphia industrial center known as “Workshop of the World.” The tour and discussion will cover Wayne Junction’s industrial history and its evolving role in Philly’s future.

Picnic, Paint, and Nature Journal at Wyck

Stamp, Stretch, and Stroll
What: An event where neighbors will visit a series of historic locations, starting at the Colored Girls Museum and ending at Hood Cemetery, while collecting a stamp at each site to record their visit. Visitors who collect the most stamps will receive prizes.

Hearth Week: Fire, Flavor & History
What: A week-long, immersive experience of cooking with fire, where each day will offer meals that are made over hearths. It will feature different dishes such as a blend of colonial-era recipes, traditional German cuisine, Philadelphia Pepper Pot, Catfish and Waffles, breadmaking, Native-inspired meals, and pizza.
